Corpus Christi, TX (October 19, 2001) -- Corpus Christi, Texas based Interconnect Services announced today it will provide high-speed Internet access and Internet Security for The Baptist Learning Center Of South Texas' Ocean Drive facilities.
For twenty-five years a Baptist school called the University of Corpus Christi occupied Ward Island on Corpus Christi Bay between the city of Corpus Christi and the Naval Air Station. When that institution closed, the Baptist Learning Center picked up the mantle and continued to pursue some of the most significant of the original purposes of UCC. Since 1977 the Baptist Learning Center has shared Ward Island with a major state university, now called Texas A and M at Corpus Christi. The Baptist program is the only such program in the southwest half of Texas.
The Baptist Learning Center's focus is preparing ministers and other church leaders to serve South Texas churches, and the learning center offers classes at about fifteen percent of the cost found on most Baptist campuses. A student can receive a fully accredited Major in Christian Studies from the center and, after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard Payne University, that student has the option, at the Ocean Drive facility, to work on a Master of Divinity Degree with Logsdon School of Theology, Hardin-Simmons University.
